For those who may not know, my mother - Margaret J. Orr, was diagnosed with ALS in February of last year after several months of baffling doctor's attempts to explain the symptoms she was suffering from.
On June 14, 2023, less than 4 months after her diagnosis, this horrible disease claimed the life of a loving wife and mother of two. ALS robbed my mother of the chance to meet her future grandchildren. She was spared the indignities of being bedridden or confined to a wheelchair, but was plagued by persistent respiratory complications, unsteadiness, and difficulties with speaking and swallowing throughout her last months.
In an effort to raise awareness of ALS, and in the hopes of honouring her memory, I have pledged to 'Gear Up For Change!' and participate in the ALS Canada Revolution Ride taking place in Dundas, Ontario on September 22, 2024.
My goal is to raise $1500.00. The funds raised will go towards sustainable investment in community-based support services for people and families living with ALS, provincial and federal advocacy efforts, and towards some of the most promising ALS research in Canada.
I am participating in Revolution Ride because I want to support the world's leading researcher's discover the cause, treatments and cure for ALS. Leading-edge research and programs have improved the quality of life for people affected by ALS.
When you make a donation to my fundraising, you are helping continue this incredible work.
Thank you for supporting our ALS community. We wouldn't be where we are today without your support.
